Job Summary:

The Head of Scientific Engagement & Communications will lead a team responsible for Medical Information & Education (MI&E), Publications, scientific Review, Scientific Engagement (SE) and MSL Excellence. This individual will Primarily be accountable for leading the different functions to deliver on Cancer Enterprise Vision as per GMA objectives in alignment with GPTs and GBTs. The primary responsibility is to lead the functional excellence for each function, while ensuring right level of expertise and skills to deliver on the strategic and tactical content of the GMA plans for these functions, in alignment and close collaboration with the GMAT leads and the Franchise Heads.


Drive Functional Excellence and Strategic approach for each function (publication, MI&E, SE, MSL excellence) for the Oncology portfolio, positioning the organization as a global leader in Oncology, in close collaboration with the Function Leads and their team:
  • Lead and develop the strategic approach for Publication, Scientific engagement (KEE engagement in particular), MI&E, to equip optimally MSL and collect their insight back to GMAT
  • Develop SOPs, Processes, mechanisms, identify internal and external stakeholders, clarify R/R, to ensure that the teams work in a consistent manner and with high standard across Oncology.
  • Drive high standard and high quality from a process and work perspective in full compliance with Global Policies, GSOPs, Regulations and applicable laws.
  • Builds strong talent pool in the scientific engagement and communication group to deliver on the Oncology compounds in different indications;
  • Lead the resource assessment on a yearly basis and when appropriate to ensure the GMAT are fully equipped to deliver and with prioritization.
  • Evaluates and/or maintain/evolve systems to meet the needs of GMA Oncology influencing change as necessary to deliver high productivity
  • Create a high performing team that can be assigned to different compounds to address the constantly evolving change in Oncology with compounds at different level of their life cycle
  • Ensures standard operating procedures are established, communicated, and executed within each functional area (MI&E, Publications, SE, MSL Excellence congress planning and scientific review).
  • On the Publication side, drive appropriate collaboration and cooperation with key internal/external authors to develop abstracts, posters, presentations, original manuscripts, review papers and case reports and Publication Library resources
  • Oversees congress planning and execution for Oncology. Identify key congresses, milestone deadline dates and congress activities including abstract submissions, satellite symposia, meet the experts and medical intelligence reporting
  • drives high quality and robust KEE/ Engagement Strategy and plans including, advisory boards, Scientific symposia, Stand-alone events
  • Collaborate with Sr. Director Patient Advocacy on patient initiatives when needed
  • Drive Digital initiatives to enhance External and internal education and optimize customer satisfaction
  • Collaborate with GMA team for one or more disease areas/assets to translate medical strategy into medical communication objectives and activities
  • Gather medical insights from key global/regional/local medical activities in coordination with cross-functional stakeholders, to help inform and adapt the overall scientific engagement and communication plan for the respective TA
  • Accountable for review and approval of key scientific communications, medical information documents, and commercial documents within policies, legal and compliance regulations. This includes Stand By statements, FAQs and press releases.
  • Develop strategic approach for each function to enhance strategic input and plan
  • Develop a strong KEE Engagement platform and strategy that would be applicable to all Oncology compounds
Drives MSL Operational Excellence in the DS organization
  • Accountable for ensuring the strategic alignment of MSL activities across Daiichi Sankyo (DS) regions, and the development, delivery and reporting of prioritized MSL Excellence initiatives to strengthen MSL capabilities across DS. Working in collaboration with the Global Medical Affairs Team leads, regional medical affairs leads and Regional Field Medical Affairs (FMA) teams, provides strategic direction and implements programs to build Oncology-specific MSL and MSL Leader capabilities and shape the future field medical role in Oncology
  • Collaborate with Human resources to recruit and retain Global Medical Communications team members, monitor performance of goals and delivery of medical communication plans and identify and foster areas of development
  • Actively manage team allocation and budget to ensure the quality and timely delivery of against medical communication plans.
  • Collaborate with procurement partners to manage agency contracting and sourcing
Qualifications: Successful candidates will be able to meet the qualifications below with or without a reasonable accommodation.

  • Advanced scientific/medical degree (Ph.D. PharmD, MD)
  • More than 12 years advanced knowledge in medical/scientific communications (Oncology preferred)
  • Experience managing vendors and complex projects
  • Organizational Leadership and Global Matrix Management experience
  • Experience in setting and adhering to departmental budgets
  • Knowledge of scientific methods, research design and medical practices and procedures is required.
  • Knowledge of US and international regulations, requirements and guidance associated with scientific publications
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills required to support complex interactions with global, regional and local roles
  • Must be willing to travel up to 30% with up to 15% international travel.
