Job Summary

The Associate Director, Business Development is responsible for providing business analytics to inform recommendations made to the global organization in support of prospective Business Development initiatives. These initiatives will include, but not be limited to, product or Company acquisitions, in/out-licensing activities, co-promotion / co development transactions, Option, R&D collaboration or other structures as needed. The Associate Director will be a member of the related deal team as assigned by the VP, Global BD and may be asked to participate in required diligence, term sheet development or negotiating activities.

The Associate Director, under the direction of the deal team lead, will consult with US and Tokyo Global Finance to align on assumptions embedded in the financial analyses. Required metrics may include raNPV/NPV, raIRR/IRR, NPV Break-Even modeling, Comparables analysis, sensitivity analyses of key variables (POS, COGS, GTN etc) and other relevant metrics as assigned. The Associate Director may be asked by the Director of Global BD to provide strategic fit and commercial assessments in the form of “Litmus” tests and/or to carry out Oncology/Other therapeutic area market research activities. The position is also responsible for providing training and development to junior members of the team as appropriate. Participation on cross functional teams is an important aspect of this position.

Responsibilities

Deal Team Participation
Act in support as an integral member of the transaction deal team:
  • Act as a Transaction Manager – interface with Tokyo BD and DSE ( or ASCA) as needed
  • Manage flow of information among regions
    • Sharing of Target provided information
    • Global BD generated Analyses – Litmus, market research, financials, diligence materials
    • Coordinate integration of Territorial P&Ls into Global P&L in concert with Finance
  • Respond to Q&A from Finance, Tokyo BD, Oncology Business Group, CE and other key stakeholders
  • In concert with Deal Lead, conduct necessary functional area Due Diligence (DD) and be responsible for completion of the DD Summary Deck including an in depth knowledge of key answered and unanswered questions for each discipline
  • Provide Business Analytics for specific deals
  • Comparables Analysis based on Deal type (ADC, Small Molecule, Oncology or other therapeutic area)
  • Assess and recommend partners most appropriate to support our Strategic Initiatives
  • Vet each opportunity for consistency with established Portfolio Strategy
  • Participate in development of B-E analyses by assembling required inputs – COGS, CDP (Spending, Timing), LOE, S&M expense
New Opportunity Analysis

Manage the analysis and interpretation of primary and secondary research data to identify business opportunities and threats. Provide strategic guidance to inform recommendations made to the global organization in support of prospective new product(s) initiatives.

This position will have direct project management responsibilities. The Associate Director will consult with marketing leads, managed care and senior management to uncover issues and develop solutions to address those issues. Research results and recommendations will be reported to the organization in a timely manner.

Cancer Enterprise (CE) Strategy Development

Under the direction of the Director, Global BD, in concert with CE leadership, support CE in its ongoing development of an enhanced Hematologic Malignancy Strategy and ADC Strategy. Develop a list of key questions and a process for developing a value creating strategy to include but not be limited to secondary market research tools, PMR and KOL advisory groups.

Assure functional excellence by training and development of more junior staff in the appropriate methods of business analysis. Actively evolve training with industry and discipline trends to assure Daiichi Sankyo has knowledge of and access to “best in class” tools and methodologies.

Qualifications

Successful candidates will be able to meet the qualifications below with or without a reasonable accommodation

Education/Experience

Qualified candidates will have a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university (with an emphasis in health sciences, business or marketing); MBA preferred
A minimum of 7years of experience preferred in life science consulting or business analysis function (within the pharmaceutical industry) or commensurate experience
