Job Summary

The purpose of the Chief of Staff to Global Development Operations (GDO) is to support the Global Head of Development of Operations and his/her leadership team in driving strategic operation planning and execution of clinical programs, and in the management and facilitation of key non project initiatives aimed at delivering the portfolio with operational excellence. The Chief of Staff will have direct accountability for administrative deliverables, will interact regularly with senior leadership and will maintain cross-functional relationships to enable leadership success.

Responsibilities
  • Act as a key thought partner and advisor to the Global Head of Development Operations and the leadership team, identifying priorities, brainstorming & identifying solutions to challenge
  • Build a thorough understanding of all core business functions of the organization and apply that knowledge to effectively manage strategic and tactical initiatives consistent with corporate and R&D objectives
  • Proactive identification of risks and issues that could impact the successful execution of business objectives; Elevate risks and issues about which the Global Head of Development Operations should be aware and frame/position ideas to resolve the issues, mitigate the risks
  • Support the Global Head of Development Operations and the leadership team in coordinating organizational procedures for optimized efficiency and help define new operational strategies and optimized operating model.
  • Coordinate the GDO leadership and stakeholders globally (e.g., Japan, US, Asia, Europe) to ensure effective communication, effective decision making and consensus building where require
  • Oversee cross functional organization-wide projects or initiatives including but not limited to R&D IT projects, implementation of new regulations, HR related initiatives etc.
  • Ensure preparation, coordination and facilitation of meetings (e.g. GDO leadership team, R&D US Management team), develop charter, objectives and agenda, coordinating with executive assistant on logistics, assist in taking meeting minutes and disseminate key outcomes, decisions and actions to relevant stakeholders
  • Support inquiries directed to the Global Head of Development Operations, determine the proper course of action and delegate to the appropriate individual and/or assist in addressing the inquiries directly or in collaboration with relevant stakeholders
  • Act as representative for Global Head of Development Operations in appropriate meetings to gather information, provide input and facilitate efficient decision making
  • Provide support for project updates and communications e.g. draft emails, reports, memos, presentations, internal and external communications
  • In conjunction with finance, HR and Project Management support Global head of Development Operations in management of budget, capacity, resources and preparation of associated analyses and report
Qualifications

Education
  • Evidence of high performance at all levels of education
  • BA or BS degree required
  • Advanced degree preferred
  • + 7 years in a business or an management role in pharmaceutical or health care industry
  • Prior chief of Staff experience to a senior pharmaceutical or healthcare industry or management consulting firm with evidence of success highly desired

  • Understanding of the pharmaceutical business in particular research and development (especially oncology) but also commercialization, medical affairs, regulatory affairs, and differences among countries
