Daiichi Sankyo, Inc. is currently seeking a Sr. Director, Human Resources Business Partner & Employment Practices. This position sits on the Human Resources Leadership Team and drives critical initiatives across the company. The role is primarily responsible for overseeing a team of professionals with broad knowledge of Human Resources practices – at the corporate and field level. Additionally, this position oversees employee relations, investigations, Affirmative Action Plans, corporate policies and collaborates with Legal and Compliance on an ongoing basis.

S/he works closely with Centers of Expertise and HR Operations to ensure there is a deliberate strategy and plan for attracting, developing and retaining talent. The ideal person uses his/her broad functional knowledge – Organizational Development, Talent Management, Performance Management, Staffing, Leadership Development, Employee Relations, and Compensation & Benefits - to advise various business leaders and HRBP team on the best course of action. Responsible for the hiring, development, coaching and evaluation of HR talent within his/her function.

Strategic Planning & Talent Management
  • Engages in Human Resources’ strategic planning and budgeting process and is responsible for driving solutions to ensure the functions are focused on delivering results, short- and long-term (e.g. Performance Excellence).
  • Develops workplace initiatives that foster a work environment consistent with the company’s vision, values, mission outlined by senior executives.
  • Develops and implements people strategies to support the cross functional efforts of the revenue generating functions within the organization.
  • Drives HR Communications within HR and across the enterprise in partnership with HR COEs.
  • Oversees Employment Practices and Employee Relations.
Operational Execution & Nationwide HR Generalist Leader
  • Participates in the development of the corporation's plans and programs as a strategic partner but particularly from the perspective of the impact on people.
  • Evaluates and advises on the impact of long-range planning of new programs/strategies and regulatory action as those items impact the attraction, motivation, development and retention of the people resources of the corporation.
  • Establishes credibility throughout the organization with management and the employees in order to be an effective listener and problem-solver of people issues.
  • Evaluates HR programs and initiatives for continual improvement for efficiency and effectiveness and provides constructive feedback and recommendations on maximizing the team’s efforts.
  • Provides coaching to managers in resolving employee related issues.
  • Facilities leadership/team effectiveness sessions to ensure alignment with business priorities and a focus on high output and efficiency.
  • Works with functional leaders to lead talent management efforts.
  • Acts as the conduit for other HR related functions, such as, Performance Mgt, Talent Acquisition & Mgt., Compensation/Benefits, HR Systems & Analytics and HR Operations and Planning.
  • May work with the parent company and DS Development on global initiatives.
  • Consults on HR Policies and employee related practices.
  • Develop and create communications plans to support the embracement of programs and practices leveraging various communication vehicles.
  • Leads enterprise-wide, HR-related projects.
  • Sits on the HR Leadership Team
  • Leads a team of HRBPs for Field Sales and Home Office; and Employee Practices / Relations Specialists
  • Selects, coaches, develops and rewards business-driven performance of the Business Partner team, ensures on-going development planning and growth in roles
  • Builds quality of leadership through identification of the talent needs of the organization
  • Development and coaching of top talent
Successful candidates will be able to meet the qualifications below with or without a reasonable accommodation.

  • Qualified candidates will have a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university, in a related field; Master’s degree (MA) or equivalent preferred
  • An experienced leader with appropriate industry experience, preferably in the pharmaceutical industry. An energetic, forward-thinking and creative individual with high ethical standards. A strategic planner with sound technical skills, analytical ability, good judgment and strong operational focus. A good leader and collaborator who can facilitate and drive HR programs within functions and across the organization in a well-organized fashion. An intelligent and articulate individual who can relate to people at all levels of an organization and possesses excellent communication skills. An excellent facilitator who is experienced in resolving conflicts between different parties to a dispute. A decisive individual who possesses a strategic focus as well as an operational, implementation and detail oriented perspective.
  • 15+ years of Human Resources experience with a strong practical experience across various Human Resources disciplines (OE/OD, Staffing, Talent Management, Employee Relations, and Compensation & Benefits etc.)
  • 5+ years of supervisory experience preferred.
  • Experience leading enterprise-wide and functional initiatives/projects.
  • Time spent in various types of organizations with different and often competing functional needs.
  • Keen understanding of field sales and home office organizations.

Ability to travel 20-30%
